2001 Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06

Meet Robin.

Black paint. Red soul. This is the Corvette at the heart of my garage, and the story that grows with every wrench turn and road mile.

The car behind the character

All curves. All attitude.

The curves, the details and the red under the hood. A closer look at the C5 that started it all.

Why Robin?

The name came first.

I purchased Robin in Warner Robins, Georgia, a place tied closely to Robins Air Force Base. I was stationed there, and it is also where I met the woman who became my wife.

For me, the name connects the town, the bird and the car. What started as a fitting name for a black Corvette Z06 became the identity for the entire C5 build.

Her personality

The car inspired a character.

I wanted the character to have the same attitude I see in the car. The grin, the cigar and the black leather give Robin a little swagger. Her red feathers echo the car’s calipers and wheel accents. She is tough, feminine, slightly dangerous and never too polished to get her hands dirty.

Her character also carries a little of my own history. I served in the U.S. Air Force as part of a Prime BEEF civil-engineering unit, and her helmet and field gear are a nod to that chapter. The resourcefulness and readiness to get the job done fit Robin’s personality, and the way I approach working on her in the garage.

Robin has a favorite stop in Tallahassee: Fuma Cigar Social. It is her spot and the only place she gets her cigars. Her favorite is the Padrón Family Reserve No. 44. When the garage is closed but the humidor needs attention, Fuma’s selection is also available through its online cigar shop.

She isn’t a finished project. She’s a relationship with horsepower.

Her playful side

Same attitude. Smaller package.

Even in cartoon form, Robin has a look that says she would rather be out on the road.

The character evolves with the car.

Every repair, upgrade, show and road mile adds another chapter to the story I am documenting. To me, Robin is both the machine in the garage and the personality that brings the journey to life.
